Reflection 2

Learning, Learners & Types of learning.

We were given the opportunity to compose our own definition of learning.
I defined learning as the various methods through which individuals are able to acquire new knowledge.

Mrs. Marsh-Roberts defined learning as a permanent change in skills, knowledge and attitude based on life long experiences.

A process that brings together cognitive, emotional and environmental influences and experiences for acquiring, enhancing or making changes in one's knowledge, skills, values and world news (Illeris, 2000; Ormorod, 1995).

In addition, we found out that there are three (3) main learning styles:
1. Visual- This is a style where learners utilise graphs, charts, maps and diagrams.
2. Audio- A person learns through listening.
3. Kinesthetic- A learning style that takes place by the students carrying out physical activities rathr than listening to a lecture or watching demonstrations.

So, we defined learning and identified the main styles but now it's time to look at those who are learning AKA the learners.
Now, we all know that everyone does not learn the same and different things peak our interests so we first identified the various types of learners.

There are six types of learners;
1. Active
2. Reflective
3. Sensing
4. Intuitive
5. Visual
6. Verbal

I'm an active learner, I live for discussions and activities. I'm all for anything that allows interaction.
Which one are you?

Last but not least, we looked at types of intelligence.
Turns out there re N I N E!
Big number right? I know.

I was asked to research one type and that was Mathematical Logical.
his is the ability to calculate, quantify, consider propositions and hypotheses and carry out complete mathematical operations. This type o intelligence is usually well developed in mathematicians, scientists & detectives. Young adults of this kind are drawn to arithmetic problems, strategy games and experiments.

In a nutshell there are many ways to get the attention of your  learners but you have to first discover what type of learner you're teaching and what type of intelligence they possess in order for effective learning to take place.

See you next time !
